: this began when supporters of prop 8 appealed the ninth u.s. circuit court of appeals in san francisco's decision to declare the measure unconstitutional. >> the court has been waiting to gather all ten of these cases together and then they are going to make some kind of decision, either grant review in some of them or all of them or none of them. they could do anything. >> reporter: cbs 5 legal expert rory little says the delay means nothing in the eyes of the court. the timeline for the appeals process will still play out the same. >> if they grant review in any of these cases, next friday, there will then be an argument scheduled sometime in march probably, possibly april. and the case will be decided by the end of june. >> reporter: if the court denies review, we could see changeses early as two weeks from now. the case will come back to the ninth circuit. once a mandate is filed, then same-sex marriage license can be issued. if they grant review, the status quo is maintained until the appeals process plays out. professor little says he expects if the court grants review, we will k
